On Monday last, Lord Mayor Gerry Breen welcomed Link Dublin to the Oak Room in the Mansion House, the network’s new meeting place. It was an auspicious beginning in the elegant new HQ.
Graham O’Rourke of Mor Solutions gave a concise and informative talk about the balance scorecard system he has used to manage and grow his successful web design agency. An engineer by training, with experience in the corporate world, he had to learn how to run a business from scratch. He gave a down-to-earth description of the monthly review system he uses, which takes just one hour to create and allows a simple and effective means of setting targets and tracking progress. The balance scorecard allows a quick overview of business and makes it easy to spot problems and address them. He suggested starting by charting a small number of indicators, which are important for your business, e.g. sales, invoices, customer care calls, testimonials, etc. The balance scorecard is a smart and achievable way to set out your goals and review your performance. It requires no complex software. All you need is an excel chart. Of course, as Graham reminded us, this is only relevant if you have a clear mission and vision for your business.
Eoin McDonnell of Precious facilitated and introduced a round table discussion after the speaker’s talk, which was followed by informal networking and catch-up conversations.
